Even though tour guide Matt thinks he is as good looking as Leonardo DiCaprio, we all know he isn't. But what he does have in common with Leo is that they both were on the island where they filmed the movie "The Beach". That is just one of the attractions of Koh Phi Phi, as the actual island where they filmed the movie is a short boat ride away, and it makes an unbelievable day trip. However, Phi Phi offers much more including some of the best nightlife in the world, picturesque beaches, and the chance to step into the ring and try your luck at Muay Thai (Although optional, we highly recommend that you try, especially if you have pent up frustration). That's right, you can choose to take on a fellow foreigner, a friend, or even challenge a local expert! Either way, it is great fun and everyone who watches or takes part will surely never forget their experience. On a more humbling note, Phi Phi islands were almost completely destroyed by the tragic Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004. Although all the establishments were re-built and now the area is thriving like never before, you may want to take a second and talk to a local about what it was like to have seen, and fortunately for them, lived through one of the worst disasters in human history. It really is worth the time, because not only will these stories you hear touch you, but you will also respect the efforts everyone had to make after the tragedy to get the islands back to habitable again. Now, shopping anyone? Even though Phi Phi has become a more popular tourist destination recently, it still holds a tremendous amount of authenticity. Phi Phi includes some of the best street shopping in all of Thailand. The streets are mazes of bars, shops, and local vendors selling everything from jewelry, clothing, books, food, and even cigars! Try your luck at bartering with locals and getting the cheapest price possible while being sure to ask tour guide Matt about an unlucky experience involving certain 100-legged creatures. You will not believe it! Many people come to Thailand just to visit Phi Phi; that is how truly special and amazing this place is. Koh Phi Phi is a destination on the following OMB trips:
